February 15th marks two months in which the family of Brandon Tate-Brown has gone without receiving any clear explanation of what happened on December 15th, when the 26-year-old Philadelphia resident was shot in the back of the head by a Philadelphia police officer during a traffic stop in the Mayfair section of Northeast Philly. The PPD claim that it was a “justifiable homicide” yet have failed to produce a shred of evidence to back up their claim. Hours later, his mother had to learn about his murder on the radio, and since then she has not received any clear answers from the PPD, and her requests have instead been met with brutal hostility and racial epithets from officers in the 15th District.
On February 25th, 26th, and 27th (Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday), please join Decarcerate PA, the Philly Coalition for Racial, Economic and Legal Justice, Action Against Black Genocide, and others in demanding the truth about the killing of Brandon Tate-Brown.
We are asking folks to call the offices of Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey, Mayor Michael Nutter, and District Attorney Seth Williams to make three demands.
On February 25th, we will demand that they release the names of the officers who killed Brandon Tate-Brown to the public.
On February 26th, we will demand that they release any and all video of Brandon's murder to the public.
Finally, on February 27th, we will demand the creation of an independent Community Review Board that holds actual power over the PPD, and that all information on police involved shootings and excessive force incidents be released to the review board and to the public.
We also encourage those of you who use Twitter to tweet at Ramsey, Nutter, and Williams throughout these days with hashtag #WhoKilledBrandonTateBrown.
